Italy has always been known for incredible wine and food, but for beer? Not so much, until now. There is country-wide interest in craft beers and home-brewing and the northwest – Piedmont and Lombardy, specifically – has emerged as the hub of Italy’s beer culture. Brewers here use both local and imported products to flavor their beers – chestnuts, local grapes, Venezuelan cocoa beans, and other exotic products all contribute to some amazing artisanal beers. Our week-long tour will be all about the beer, the people behind the beer, and the food that goes with the beer.
We’ll arrive in Milan and have one day to decompress with a tour and tasting at local brewery Birrificio Lambrate, one of the first craft breweries in Italy and a remarkably fun place.
Afterward, we will leave Milan and spend a six days exploring the beer culture in Piedmont, accompanied by Paolo Ferrero, a local food expert and cookbook author. Our itinerary includes:
